North Park Tavern LogoDuring these turbulent times, its good to be able to report the news of a new pub opening in Bootle. The North Park Tavern, situated on Stanly Road in Bootle, is due to open it's doors in June.

We contacted North Park Tavern owner, Jonathan Smallwood, for more details.

'I've never managed a bar, but I am a massive beer enthusiast, so I've decided to have a go and start my own bar, hopefully leaving behind a fairly colourful legal career...
I'm from the north end of the city, which aside from the likes of Crosby and Waterloo is not very well served in terms of craft beer and real ale, so I've decided to set up in the heart of Bootle, on Stanley Road near to the Strand Shopping Centre.

The premises I've acquired is fairly small and might be regarded by some as a 'micro pub', albeit it will be split over 2 floors.

I'll be starting off simple, with 6 keg lines (with a good supply of craft beers from local breweries, Black Lodge, Top Rope, Neptune to name a few) and I'm hoping to be open for the 21st June when Covid rules are much more relaxed. Rest assured if it's a success I'll be putting cask on too.'

We wish Jonathan all the best with his new venture and look forward to reporting when the pub opens.

Keystone Logo

As we emerge from lockdown, it is encouraging to report a new pub opening. The Keystone Hope St, formerly Bread & Butter/ Clove Hitch (Hope St), opened on the 12th April.

We reached out to them on Twitter for some further information and receive the following response from Director/General Manager Charlotte Hardiman 'We aim to champion local breweries on both keg and cask to support the Merseyside beer industry. You will regularly see the likes of Neptune, Chapter, Handyman, Carnival and many more on rotation. Keystone will start with 3 cask lines and 6 keg lines. Which we hope to increase in the future if it proves popular. We will also have the full range of Turncoat gin. A Liverpool distillery.'

Charlotte continues 'I first worked in this bar as a waitress when it was the clove hitch and jumped at the opportunity to take it over as my first venture independently. Keystone's whole ethos is to strive to promote the great breweries that were influenced by the previous bar that resided here The Clove Hitch & 23 Club. Which also strived to bring good beer to the city.'

They are getting pretty full already so we strongly suggest people book either through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call them on 0151 708 6591 to book a table as walkins won't always be possible. Their beer garden can cater to up to 40 people but we are filling up fast!

The Claremont Pub on Lower Breck Road is set to be turned into flats. Its been reported that the vacant pub is in a poor and deteriorating condition. The new layout would see the three storey building turned into five one bed apartments and one two bed apartment. (Reported in Liverpool Echo)

The Aigburth Arms, Victoria Road, not far from Aigburth Vale has been revamped and reopened with a large beer garden, half of which is covered. No booking required. Hobgoblin Gold with Black Sheep to follow.
