Her Majesty’s Treasury have been considering changes, for some time, to the Small Brewers Relief (SBR) system. The reduction in SBR for brewers producing below 5,000 hectolitres will be disastrous for Britain’s internationally renowned craft brewery industry.

We are calling for the Government to think again about their proposal to cut tax relief for some of the smallest brewers. Read about the campaign at camra.org.uk/sbr

We need your support by writing to HM Treasury before the deadline of 4th April for submissions and support for the small brewing industry using the docxattached template15.42 KB  email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you know any brewers please encourage them to submit their views and thoughts giving examples to back up the CAMRA campaign.

Thank you to those who have previously contacted their MPs about this matter and to the MP’s who have already shown support.

Her Majesty’s Treasury are still considering changes to the Small Brewers Relief (SBR) system. The reduction in SBR for brewers producing below 5,000 hectolitres will be disastrous for Britain’s internationally renowned craft brewery industry. Have you asked your MP to sign the Early Day Motion opposing this change, EDM 1374: The Reduction of Small Brewers’ Relief? Read it here: https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/57979

We thank Kim Johnson MP (Liverpool, Riverside) for being one of the first to sign the EDM, and acknowledge that others such as Bill Esterson (Sefton Central) cannot sign EDMs due to the posts they hold, but know they support our campaigning work. Thank you to members who have contacted their MPs about this matter.

January 25th is Burns Night. If you are celebrating the life of Robert Burns, don’t forget that late in his life Rabbie was an Exciseman, he ensured tax was imposed on a variety of goods, including alcohol. The Exciseman may be history, but we still have HM Treasury who are currently considering changes to Small Brewers Relief (SBR), a system that provides for reduced rates of beer duty for small brewers. Concerned MPs have tabled an Early Day Motion, EDM 1374: The Reduction of Small Brewers’ Relief asking the Government to revise their current preferred approach, which could mean microbreweries going out of business. Read the EDM here: https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/57979

Please contact your MP and ask them to support the EDM (Find your MP here: https://members.parliament.uk/members/commons
