Well thought out proposals No. 3647, this time from the BMA 

The British Medical Association (BMA) has published a new report proposing a draconian clampdown on alcohol and pubs. 

Rather than proposing targeted measures to help the small minority of people who misuse alcohol, the BMA have taken a heavy handed blanket approach that will harm responsible drinkers and community pubs. The report proposes vastly increasing the tax on alcohol through above inflation rises in alcohol duty and introducing a new alcohol levy. It further demands a reduction in pub opening hours which could mean a return to a uniform 11pm, or earlier, closing time. 

CAMRA has launched a petition to the Prime Minister calling on the Government to reject these proposals and to support the interests of the responsible, sensible majority of moderate drinkers.
